The Association of Danish Mortgage Banks in Brussels

A fully integrated financial market in Europe to the benefit of both consumers and companies – this is one of the EU’s declared goals for the future. The financial sector is working every single day to reach this goal. This is the case in a Danish context – as well as in a European context.

The mortgage credit sector is an important part of the financial market in EU, and the Danish covered bond market is among the very leading players in a European context.

The highest objectives of the Association of Danish Mortgage Banks are to maintain a very efficient, product innovative and price competitive procurement of Danish mortgage credit. This will benefit consumers, companies, mortgage banks and the Danish economy as such.

The Association of Danish Mortgage Banks is therefore interested in following initiatives at EU level that might affect the basic conditions on which the Danish mortgage credit system works.

In order to be centrally placed around EU institutions and to be able to influence EU initiatives in the mortgage sector, the Association of Danish Mortgage Banks has opened an office in Brussels in summer 2005.

From Brussels the Association of Danish Mortgage Banks will also work to:

  • promote views of the Danish mortgage industry in order to maintain and secure its leading position in a market that is predicted a big future in the EU,

  • make sure that private customers in Danish mortgage banks are safeguarded satisfactory and that balanced consumer conditions and terms are maintained,

  • draw attention to the advantages of the unique Danish mortgage credit system

  • emphasize that the Danish mortgage credit products are competitive in terms of prices and products on an international scale and

  • maintain the “gilt-edged status” that characterizes Danish mortgage bonds (covered bonds)
